Longtime weathercaster dies at 48

Associated Press

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Roland Galvan, a longtime weathercaster who
worked at television stations throughout Texas, has died. He was 48.

Galvan died at a San Antonio hospital on Christmas after suffering from
liver problems for about two years, his brother Roy Galvan said.

Galvan had been chief meteorologist at Corpus Christi television
station KIII before leaving in November 2004.

"Our generation got into broadcasting at a time when there were few
Hispanics in the business," said Galvan's friend of 20 years, WOAI
meteorologist Maclovio Perez. "We should be very proud of what Roland
was able to accomplish in major markets across the country."
From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, Galvan was on KTRK-TV in
Houston, according to the station's Web site. Galvan also worked at Los
Angeles television station KTLA in the late 1990s. He did weather
segments in Beaumont and San Francisco before arriving in Corpus
Christi.

"He was a great person to have around," said KIII reporter and anchor
Rudy Trevino, who met Galvan in 1979 when they worked together at WOAI
in San Antonio. "He was always the life of the party. This guy was
always very positive, very kind."

Galvan is survived by his father, his brothers and his son, Jeffery.

A rosary was scheduled for Tuesday at Mission Park Funeral Home South
in San Antonio. A service was planned for Wednesday at St. Leo's
Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Very odd deal in Houston about Roland Galvan's death. No obituary but
finally today an announcement appeared in today's Houston Chronicle. Only
thing at KTRK-TV on-line was a repeat from the Associated Press.

Personally I liked and enjoyed him during his time in Houston.
