The late Kathryn Crosby--Bing's long-surviving second wife, his first
having died early on, leaving the crooner with four boys to (somewhat
controversially) raise--also had the distinction of being the mother of
Mary Crosby.

As you may recall, daughter Mary is the sometime actress who landed the
coveted role of "who shot J.R. [Ewing]" on "Dallas".

* According to the introduction of a massive Bing biography published a
couple decades back (and which some book critics declared definitive),
by certain metrics--radio play, record sales and Hollywood box-office,
most notably--the Spokane native** ranks as the most-successful
entertainer of the first half of the 20th Century!
** The house that was childhood home to handsome Harry (and also his
late bandleader brother Bob Crosby) is restored and now serves as the
Alumni House at Gonzaga University, that hoops-happy college which is
ALSO site of the UTTERLY-WONDERFUL Bing Crosby Museum (occupying but a
single large room a couple hundred yards to the south); well worth your
hour-or-so detour next time you're driving through Spokane***.
*** A lovely, river-bisected burg frequently mispronounced
"spo-KANE"...but NEVER by residents of the glorious Evergreen State aka
"that OTHER Washington"****.
**** And yeah, I sure miss doing "Radioactive Seattle with Bryan Styble"
on KIRO radio at 710 kHz, a broadcast which received much Spokane-based
caller input.

More over-written, over-punctuated rot from Lionel Jr. (another
windbag). Who are you trying to impress? Besides yourself? Sad.

1970s Guinness Books featured photos of a special "platinum disc"
sprayed in honor of his selling over 200 million records, long before
RIAA created a regular "platinum" category.

Of course the year Kathryn married Bing was also that of the birth of
her new step-granddaughter who would appear in a television show of,
and create a documentary about the devotees of,a certain media franchise
whose devotees might prefer to pronounce it SPOCK-ane.

And it was in checking the timing of that birth just now that I found
that the casting of the role taken by the Crosby descendant involved
consideration of both Liane Langland (my numbingly obscure favorite
actress,past acquaintance/castmate of Jim Beaver,mentioned here in
days of yore) AND my since-deceased cousin Lee's then sister-in-law
Leah Ayres (born Simpson,now Kalish).

Northeasterners regard that frequency as belonging to WOR.

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

She's listed under "Kathryn Grant" at the IMDb.

For those who don't know, "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" is one of Ray
Harryhausen's better films. (And, script-wise, it's a LOT better than
"Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger," which was made almost two decades
later! I wouldn't be too surprised if RH secretly regretted being
involved with that one.)

(her whole filmography - the trailer for "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" is
what popped up when I clicked on her link)
