I'd never heard of him, but the "heroic" picture (which
resembles David Hasselhoff) got me curious enough to
look at the imDb. A couple Hollywood films, but
mostly Mormon Cinema.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a man who was found dead on a TRAX train
apparently died of an unspecified medical condition.

University of Utah Police Chief Scott Folsom says the man has been
identified as 44-year-old Theron D. Read, of Salt Lake City.

A conductor found the man dead on the light-rail train on Monday when he
didn't get off at University Hospital, the last stop on that train line.

Autopsy results are pending.

I'd never heard of him,
Oh, crap. Sure I did. He was locally-famous for his
appearances in anti-litter ads:

For years, the guy couldn't even walk down the
street without women fainting.

Theron D. Read was NOT the main character depicted in the "Don't
Waste Utah" commercials. He was, however the gaunt-faced litterbug
whom I believe gets picked up by the "Hasselhoff look-alike" and
subsequently booted out of the car for littering.

Read is most recognizable as Mark Bojeekus, the beret-wearing member
of the statistics club in "3 O'Clock High" (filmed at Ogden High
School) who implores the protagonist, Jerry to try to last at least
three minutes in his pending fight with bully Buddy Revell so that he
might collect on a bet he has made with other club members.

Trust me. Should you find opportunity to revisit "3 O'Clock High",
currently available for free via Hulu.com, you will immediately
remember him from the "Don't Waste Utah" spots. He had a unique look
that certain character actors have and that many more traditional
looking, underemplyed actors wished that they did.

Berets off to you, Theron. You done good.

Darn. Thanks. I'll take care of the misinfo I've spread...
but I was depending on a local news source that should
have known better.

I see the news site has removed the Road Warrior picture
from the Trax death story.

Well....that picture's what was on one TV station's
website leading to my Embarrassment of the Day.
They removed the picture by the time I went back
to look.
