Marianne Gaba Starkman
November 13, 1939 - May 3, 2016 After courageously battling a brain tumor
for several years our beautiful Marianne finally succumbed with her loving
family at her bedside. Marianne was raised in Chicago by her parents Frank
Gaba, a mailman, and her mother Marie, a factory worker. Marianne was
chosen Miss Illinois in 1959...soon after she came to California for The
Miss Universe Pageant and became a finalist...she then entered USC and was
selected Helen of Troy. She appeared in films with stars such as Elvis
Presley, Ricky Nelson, Glen Ford and Jerry Lewis. She was on tour with
Johnny Grant during the Korean War. In Sept.1959 Marianne became a Playboy
centerfold. In 1960 she met her future husband Mike Starkman at State
Beach. They were engaged in a week, and married in a month, a romance that
lasted 56 years. Marianne became proficient in photography, loved nature
and her garden. She loved her pets so much. She will be greatly missed by
her loving husband Mike, her children Greg, Wendy, her son-in-law James
Rothstein and her grandchildren Chloe and Rex. Every time we see a
beautiful flower we will always think of our beautiful Marianne..."You
will be in our hearts forever." A special thanks to our wonderful
caregivers Aura and Gemma.

"She was on tour with Johnny Grant during the Korean War." ??

She would have been 13 in 1952.

The obituary is wrong about Marianne Gaba touring during the war. She
did tour with Grant, but not until 1958. (Johnny Grant later became
"the honorary mayor of Hollywood" and hosted the dedications of stars
on the Walk of Fame.) This is from the Long Beach (CA) Independent on
November 21, 1958, page 6:

Grant and Troupe Set for GI Holiday Tour

LOS ANGELES (CNS)-- Johnny Grant and more than a dozen other
entertainers will leave Dec. 15 to entertain American GIs in Japan,
Korea, Formosa and Okinawa.

The troupe, all of whom are giving up their holiday vacations, returns
to this country Dec. 31.

For Grant, KMPC radio disc jockey, it is his 18th overseas junket and
his 12th to the Far East.

The Grant unit includes Jackie Le Maire, George Miladin, Connie
Stevens, Ted Stevens, Rima Rudina, Betty Jo Houston, Marianne Gaba,
Valerie Allen, Scatman Caruthers [sic], Val Setz, Ziva Rodan, Beverly
Scott and Gail Robbins.

I'm pretty sure all we ever saw of her was her upper back, so stats could be easily faked. A very pretty gal, nonetheless.

Just checked the library, and her centerfold doesn't even show her upper
back...she's wearing what looks like a snugly-fitted polo shirt and no
pants, her back toward the camera and looking over her shoulder....r

She seems to have not exposed her breasts as a Playboy Playmate.
