Jimmy Carter's funeral, the media, and grammar

Has anyone noticed that, for a change, the media are NOT misusing the
word "lay"?

That is, every time I turned on the TV or radio, at least, they were all
saying "will lie in state" or "lies in state."

There is hope yet!

(But my biggest dream is for all the professional news media to hold a
contest for the fewest grammatical errors in a year - when it comes to
teleprompters, at the very least. No more "wannas" or "gonnas," for
starters!)

I watched some of C-SPAN's coverage of the funeral.
Three of Carter's grandsons spoke,all with the first
initial J just as all his sons have...I wonder how
long that tradition may last.

Some remarks seemed to be aimed at highlighting the
goodwill toward others Carter and his contemporaries
practiced,in contrast to the combative Trump...who
I do not believe would admit the point.

I spotted a Space Force master sergeant among the
pallbearers,they seemed to want all the military
branches represented rather than reflecting Carter's
own (Navy) background in the party composition.

at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

This coverage from The Guardian linked below is a beautifully-written
essay.

And not incidentally, the piece places in historical perspective what
went down yesterday inside the POTUS- and VPOTUS-congregated National
Cathedral in the District of Columbia--with particular attention to
outgoing POTUS Biden's thinly-veiled rhetorical jabs at his
twice-elected predecessor-AND-successor...who of course was politely and
respectfully seated right there in front of Biden whist the sitting*
POTUS infelicitously used his eulogy for yet more Biden-style anti-Trump
FULMINATION (and in the process, rudely and far outshining his TRIBUTE
to the late centenarian Carter).

Biden has long made clear he prides himself on respecting history--but
from this quarter it seems he further sullied his
already-seriously-tarnished place in Presidential history with this
angry, self-indulgent performance during his final 10 days in The White
House.
