Well, it's been nearly 8 months since messages were posted here asking
if there were any confirmation that Lee Patterson has died... and now,
finally, there's something outside this newsgroup reporting the news.
This item on TVgameshows.net states that TV Guide reported his death
just this past week. However, I can't find any item about the death on
TVGuide.com.
His Wikipedia entry says "Died February 14, 2007. [citation needed]".
Make of that what you will.
Anyway, here's the TVgameshows.net obit.
(Note: I tried to reply to the previous thread but Google Groups
wouldn't let me.)

Lee Patterson, Surfside 6, One Life to Live Actor Dies at 77

Actor Lee Patterson, one of the Warner Brothers contract players in
television during the early 1960s and a soap actor in the '70s, is
dead at the age of 77.
TV Guide reported Patterson's death, which occurred earlier in the
year, just last week.
Patterson co-starred with the late Troy Donahue in ABC's Surfside 6,
one of several action adventure series produced by Warners for the
network. In the role of Dave Thorne, Patterson lasted the entire two
years of the Monday night series, set in Miami Beach.
Patterson is pictured above in a scene with actor Ed Platt, who later
went on to a major supporting role on NBC's Get Smart.
He did scores of prime time guest shots after Surfside's cancellation
in 1962 but joined the cast of ABC's One Life to Life in 1968 as Joe
Riley. He kept the role through 1979, with a hiatus during 1971. He
returned to the part periodically from 1986-88.
In 1980, Patterson was introduced as Dr. Kevin Cooke on NBC's Another
World, shortly before he seeded the network's spinoff soap Texas.
On the game show resume, Patterson included an all-star week of Family
Feud in 1978, when he played in a Valentine's edition with the One
Life to Life cast against General Hospital.

It's hard to believe his passing would go this many months without
coverage in the media. Though "One Life", like all soaps, was an
ensemble cast -I watched it regularly during summer vacations and
holidays when school wasn't in session- it was pretty obvious that the
unofficial 'stars' of the series were Patterson and Erika Slezak
(sp?). The major storylines were usually about their characters, and
most if not all of the other characters were, in some way, related to
'Vicki' and 'Joe Riley'.
Many young actors got their break on that soap in the 1970s. Tommy Lee
Jones, Jameson Parker of 'Simon & Simon', Tom Berenger, Lawrence
Fishburn, Alice Hirson ('Dallas', 'Ellen'), Judith Light, and probably
a few more after about 1978. (I quit watching when the show expanded
to an hour and underwent some major changes in the cast).
There were actors who were, even then, better known than Patterson,
such as Farley Granger, who played a psychiatrist (and the father of
Parkers' character) and te late Sheppard Strudwick, who played Vicki's
father. Still, in the 1970s, Lee Patterson was to that show what
MacDonald Carey was to 'Days of Our Lives' or Jonathan Frid to 'Dark
Shadows'. He and Slezak were always front and center in the cast
photos. I read somewhere he left the show after a contract dispute.

After I became familiar with Liane Langland's miniseries/TV-movie work
in 1984-85,I researched and found that she had briefly appeared on OLTL
(which I have never watched) early in her career.
When Rebecca Schaeffer was shot dead by a fan not long after I had
written my few fan letters to Langland,HER having appeared on OLTL
early in her career was one of the parallels that spooked me and made
me think fans must be viewed as dangerous loons (which I am not).

For what it is worth, my sister (who watches several daytime dramas)
told me that Soap Opera Digest also published an obit this week as
well, including a quote from one of his co-stars -- Erika Slezak IIRC.

It's hard to believe his passing would go this many months without
coverage in the media.
In fact, his death began getting coverage when somebody finally got
around to telling the media that Patterson had died. I'm surprised an
actor who'd been on a soap opera and (obviously) enjoyed a following
didn't have someone who could have made the proper notifications at the
time.

They don't have psychics sitting in newsrooms and pulling stories out
of the ether. Somebody has to tell somebody else about something.
