The Tehran Times and others report the death of Ayatollah
Mohammad Yazdi,born in July 1931,on December 9th 2020.
A longtime leader of the Islamic Republic after the Shah
was overthrown,he served as Chief Justice from 1989 to 1999
(preceding Mohammad Shahroudi,whose death I noted here in 2018)
and as Chairman of the Assembly of Experts in 2015-2016
(succeeding the same Ayatollah Shahroudi,who had held the
post on an acting basis).
According to the Tehran Times he stepped down as a member of
the Guardian Council on November 1st citing ill health,
but the Wikipedes' revision of their article on the Council
on that occasion makes it look like he was never a member
