He died in Vienna. He has more than 100 books to his name.

From Wikipedia: "He is best known for his children's book series Manuel & Didi, which he illustrated himself, using a text comics format."

He may have been nominated in 1998 for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, but I'll have to check.

He was nominated in 1992 and 1998 for Illustration. (I don't understand why Wikipedia seldom mentions any HCAA nominations; it's the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for children's writers and illustrators!)
