Famed singer and Coachella Valley resident Jack Jones died Wednesday
night, his family announced. He was 86 years old.

Jones is considered one of the most popular vocalists of the 1960s. He
is best known for hits like Wives and Lovers, Lollypops and Roses, and
famously sang the theme to The Love Boat, the popular ABC show that ran
from 1977 to 1987.

Seems like the late Jones always had a smile on his face whenever on
Merv or Johnny or any other show he guested on, and also always had a
smile in his singing voice.

I was surprised to read that Jones was married no fewer than six* times,
and regret not tuning into NBC either of the two nights he improbably
served as one of the (always-shifting) guest hosts of "Hullabaloo".

Also erroneously assumed that a name like Jack Jones was a stage name.

* That tally is just one short of Taylor's** roster, if you don't count
Burton twice.
** Liz, not Swift.

Six times?!? I wonder which family I met. I had a continuing gig for a
while at what was then a new part of Universal Studios in Orlando and
was asked to take him and his family on a tour of the place. I had no
idea that the wife I met was just one of many and I have to wonder if
the kids were hers. I spent most of the time talking with Jack about his
father, since I was kind of a fan of his. "A Night at the Opera"
continues to be one of my all-time favorite films.
