Richard G. Stilwell Jr., a retired Army lieutenant colonel and former
Washington DC area resident who was also a stage, screen and television
actor, died in an auto accident November 23, 2002, in West Los Angeles,
California when his car crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided
with another vehicle, the driver of the other car was hospitalized with
serious injuries, at the age of 59.
Col. Stilwell, who lived in the Washington DC area off and on over 40
years, was the son of Gen. Richard G. Stilwell, a former undersecretary
of defense who was commander of U.N. forces in Korea during the war
there. Col. Stilwell was born in Buffalo. He was a graduate of the
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and received a master's
degree in public administration from George Washington University.
Was he any relation to Gen. Joseph W. "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell, of WWII
He was his grandson and son of Gen. Richard Stilwell. Col. Stilwell was CO of Company "C," 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, during 1969, in Vietnam. At that time, his rank was Captain.
