Archer's acting career began with her role as Lorraine, Nancy Walker's daughter, in the 1976 ABC sitcom The Nancy Walker Show. She next played Judy Hibbard in the 1977-1978 CBS sitcom We've Got Each Other. In 1984-1985, she appeared in the NBC sitcom Spencer as Miss Spier. Her best known role came on Mama's Family where she played Iola Boylan, the family's prissy neighbor, for four seasons from 1986-1990. Ms. Archer had retired from acting in 2000 and moved to Santa Monica in 2001. Survivors include her husband Robert Bernard, who she had married in 1976. She was a very funny lady on Mama's Family and Major Dad. Iola Boylan was an annoying yet sweet character. Her "knock, knock!" catchphrase when she greeted the Harpers was memorable. She will be deeply missed.
