Another of the "Eminent Elizabethans II"...persons whose lives
were entirely within the reign of,and whose careers achived note in the
realms of,Queen Elizabeth II...a category I have periodically noted
since 1999,most recently on the death of John Wraw.

Candice Atherton,often known as Candy,born September 21st 1955,
died October 30th 2017("suddenly" per the BBC,"unexpectedly"
according to the Plymouth Herald).

She was a longtime member of the Labour party, first elected to
office as a local councillor in London, then failing to be elected
in Wiltshire, before being selected (from an all-female shortlist
later ruled illegal) to seek election to Parliament from Cornwall,
which she achieved twice,in 1997 and 2001,before being defeated
in 2005.In recent years she had been a local councillor in Cornwall,
to which she moved after her election to Parliament.

(I suppose I could have included Terence Beesley since then).

Mark Whittow, who had studied and taught at various colleges of
the University of Oxford, was the University's Senior Proctor in
the 2016-17 academic year, and had been slated to be formally
elected Provost of Oriel College in March and take office at
the beginning of September, was killed in a 5-vehicle automobile
accident on the evening of December 23rd 2017 according to the
Evening Standard and Oxford Mail.He had turned 60 in August and was
serving as University Lecturer in Byzantine Studies.
